We caught a couple hours of sleep and were on the road again later that morning to Albuquerque. Since it was Balloon Fiesta week, no motels were available but through the goodheartedness of friends, we were able to find a place to stay while we were there. After a good meal at my favorite restaurant (Golden Corral) we got squared away in our digs, and started making plans for the next day.
One of my friends had volunteered to help with the Balloon event and said he could get us into the park where we could get a close up look at the balloons. Unfortunately, neither one of us could get our butts out of bed at 4:00 am to go with him to the park, so we went to the Sandia Tram in the hopes that we could see the balloons from atop the mountain known as Sandia Peak. It was a nice trip and we thoroughly enjopyed the experience, but next time I will wear a jacket. It gets cold at over 10,000 ft elevation with the wind whipping around. The next day was devoted to culture: we took in a museum of Indian culture, and then the Albuquerque Aquarium.
